anyone use those inkjet iron on transfers? i've got some xmas presents to start on and wondered if they were any good. and, if you have used them, do they work on any color fabric?

they are mediocre at best, and don't work well on colors. i've found that they tend to fade REALLY fast from washing, if you can even get them to work at all.

i haven't used them in a couple of years though, so times may have changed.

thanks for the heads up. looks like i've got a bit of testing to do first. :)

I've used the iron-on transfers on light colors. The backing isn't totally transparent, so I'm not sure what that would do to darker fabric.

Could you try some on test fabric first?

i'll definitely do a test. but i haven't purchased the stuff yet since i wanted to get an idea if it was worth it. (i've got silk screening capabilities, but that takes longer & was looking for a quick way to get stuff done.)

checking around, there seems to be an avery version which works well on dark fabrics. if i can get that i'll let you know how it goes.

What I had used before was from Avery. It did work well, but again it was a light shirt.

And with what Brian said - I don't imagine the thing lasted through too many washes. Silkscreening would be more work, but I'd imagine it would last for much longer.

Good luck! It sounds like a neat project. :)

I've used them. There are 2 kinds. One for light fabrics and one for dark. I've used the one for white. It looks good but color pics tend to get an antique yellowing effect. It looks cool but if its not what you want then it can be a bummer.

oooh, that's good to know. i also read a review of the avery dark fabric ones and someone said those work really well on light fabrics, too.

i'll definitely do a test.

Thanks

I couldn't find an email address for you, so I'm just posting here to say thanks for the ride home last night. I hope you were finally able to open your car door and turn off that light... I'm sorry if I broke your car.

no problem! yes, the light went off (with a little fonzie hit to jog it back into submission), and the door opened the next morning in the sunshine. then, as expected, it froze once the sun went behind the clouds and is still stuck shut today. hehe. oh well.

Sorry to post this in a non-relevant thread, but: have you seen the current (9/5) Weekly Dig? They used a picture of you in an ad for the German Beer Fest on pg 41. I'll be carrying a copy with me whenever I go out from now on so I can get an autograph the next time I run into you. ; )
